Evergreen Lodge Wedding
Michele + Matt
Yosemite National Park
Matt and Michele picked a gorgeous summer day for their Evergreen Lodge wedding. In Yosemite, you can’t always depend on the weather, but it was perfect for their vintage-inspired event! Tall pine trees, blue skies, and stunning views perfectly set off their sweet vows and gathered family. It was one of the most beautiful and well thought out weddings I have ever had the pleasure of photographing. Not only was their venue – Evergreen Lodge – absolutely perfect, but so were all the details that the couple integrated into their special day.
Matt + Michele are two adventurous souls that met in high school, went their separate ways, only to reunite many years later. Matt was smitten with Michele and Michele was equally enamored with him. She told me that she knew very early on that she and Matt would be married someday. The two bonded over their love for adventure, sports, and various other mutual interests. They chose Evergreen Lodge because of its pure beauty, close proximity to Yosemite Valley, intimacy (all of their guests stayed in the cute cabins on the premises), and, according to the couple, “fit what they had always dreamed of” for their wedding day.
Bridal Party Gifts
Michele and Matt had custom made Nike shoes made for each member of their wedding party & their parents. The shoes displayed the couple’s wedding date and were designed with the color palette the couple chose for the wedding. Since all their nearest and dearest are very active, each person was over the moon excited to wear their new kicks as they tromped around Evergreen Lodge that weekend.
Matt and Michele decided that they would like to do their first look outside of Evergreen Lodge on the way to Hetch Hetchy. We found a lovely spot near a lake with not a soul around. Michele was as excited to see Matt as he was to see her. It was so much fun watching each of them beam with excitement and happiness. Matt’s expression (and subsequent tears) when he saw his bride-to-be was beyond emotional. I think I may have cried as much as he did – the moment was really THAT good. The couple exchanged sentiments, hugs, kisses, and cried more happy tears.
Wapama Grove could [hands down] be one of the most gorgeous wedding sites I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The tall trees surrounding the grove make it incredibly romantic and intimate – not to mention picturesque. Their closest family and friends gathered to witness the couple promise that they will remain side by side forever.
Ohhhhhh. SUCH A GOOD RECEPTION. I don’t know where to begin. IT WAS PERFECT. The whole thing had a comfortable rustic charm. Beautiful florals in vintage bottles lined the farmhouse tables // white gauze runners // elegant candlesticks // the couple made a book about how their custom wedding bands were made // desserts that were as pretty as they were delicious // I could go on and on. The food was delicious. The toasts were incredibly sweet. The kids were cute. The guests were happy. The dancing was fun. I could go on and on. The whole day was absolutely wonderful.
Since Matt + Michele were going to have a day after session in Yosemite Valley – we quickly snuck away for a few twilight photos. I love this part of the day because the couple can step away from the reception + just be. Take a few breaths // look a one another // and have a few moments to be present, reflect on their day, and enjoy being with one another.
Yosemite Valley Day After Session
The day after Matt + Michele’s wedding, I met them at The Ahwahanee and we trekked around a few different spots in Yosemite Valley. I have been to Yosemite numerous times and it NEVER fails to amaze me. It is truly one of the greatest treasures on our planet. I loved how Matt + Michele was down for anything at this point – hiking // getting their wedding clothes dirty // exploring. We had a blast running around, laughing, and reminiscing about the day before.
After exploring the valley a bit, we hopped in the car and headed for a hike down to Taft Point. The sun was getting ready to set and we were ready to set out on a little adventure. It was a visceral experience for all three of us when we descended upon our destination – the view was so gorgeous that it literally took your breath away.
Back we went. Headlamps in tow. The perfect end to the greatest weekend.
